Konsep Supervisi Pendidikan
Secara tradisional konsep supervisi adalah pekerjaan inspeksi, mengawasi dalam pengertian mencari kesalahan dan menemukan kesalahn dengan tujuan untuk diperbaiki. Supervisi dengan konsep ini dsebut snooper vision atau tugas memata-matai untuk menemukan kesalahan. Konsep supervisi ini membuat guru-guru menjadi takut dan enggan menolak kerja sama karena dianggap dapat dipersalahkan.
Berkembanglah konsep supervisi ilmiah, yaitu :
- Sistematis (dilaksanakan secara teratur, berencana, dan terus-menerus).
- Obyektif (data yang didapat berdasarkan observasi nyata bukan berdasarkan tafsiran pribadi yang bersifat subyektif).
- Menggunakan instrumen pencatat yang reliabel untuk memberikan informasi sebagai umpan baol atas penilaian terhadap proses pembelajaran di kelas.
Menurut Adams dan Dickey (1959) dalam Basic Principle of Supervision, supervisi adalah program berencana untuk memperbaiki pengajaran yang pada hakikatnya adalah perbaikan belajar dan mengajar.
Dalam Dictionary of Education oleh Good Carter (1959) pengertian supervisi adalah usaha dari petugas-petugas sekolah dalam memimpin guru-guru maupun petugas-petugas lain untuk memperbaiki pengajaran, termasuk menstimulasi, menyeleksi jabatan dan perkembangan guru-guru serta merevisi tujuan-tujuan pendidikan, bahan pengajaran, metode dan evaluasi pengajaran yang demokratis.
Menurut Boardman (1953), supervisi adalah usaha menstimulasi, mengkoordinasi dan membimbing secara kontinu pertumbuhan guru-guru di sekolah secara individual maupun secara kolektif agar dicapai fungsi pengajaran secara lebih paham dan efektif. Dengan demikian guru-guru dapat menstimulasi dan membimbing pertumbuhan peserta didik secara kontinu dan lebih kompeten berpartisipasi dalam masyarakat demokrasi modern.
Mc Nerney (1951) mengatakan, supervisi sebagai suatu prosedur memberi arah dan mengadakan penilaian kritis terhadap proses pengajaran. Menurut Burton dan Bruckner (1955), supervisi dari segi perubahan sosial berpengaruh terhadap peserta didik sebagai teknik pelayanan dengan tujuan utama mempelajari dan memperbaiki secara bersama-sama faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak.
Kimball Wiles mengatakan, bahwa supervisi adalah bantuan untuk memperbaiki situasi belajar mengajar yang lebih baik.
